This is super cute! Im trying to make a coupke as a few friends of mine, my SIL and myself are all expecting and are relatively close to eachother in due dates. Im using a light yarn that's not worsted with a G hook. Do I increase the number of stitches to make it about the same size?

I use both depends on what i am making and my edges are always straight on both. I assumes it is how each person tension is whenever they are making their projects etc.

I picked up this stitch a month or so ago at the start of a fillet crochet doily I did and omg. Absolutely a game changer!!

I just do two chains, keeps the edge straight

It sounds like math. 2 singles instead of double. It makes a less droopy stitch height.
